ROC-M Radio Course

Maritime Radio Course

To operate a VHF radio you must have an ROC-M certificate (Restricted Operator’s Certificate – Maritime) – it’s the law.

This one-day course teaches emergency radio procedures and every day operating techniques. Learn about channel frequencies; the phonetic alphabet; procedural words and phrases along with Digital Selective Calling (DSC) and the Global Maritime Distress and Safety System (GMDSS). The ROC-M certificate is valid for life.

Online Course and Exam

Students must have a strong internet connection along with a webcam and microphone.

Session 1 – 10am to noon

Session 2 – 12:30pm to 2:30pm

Written exam – 3pm

Exam notes: You will be required to show government photo I.D. to the instructor at the beginning of the exam session and to be visible to the instructor at all times. Please ensure sufficient lighting is available for your webcam.


Course Materials

Choose when registering either a Maritime Radio PRINTED GUIDE or ePUB (electronic version).

PRINTED GUIDE: The ROC-M PRINTED GUIDE is mailed to you following registering provided there is sufficient delivery time with Canada Post (minimum 7 business days prior to course date).

ePUB GUIDE: The electronic textbook version will be emailed to you (ePUB cannot be printed). 

Course Fee: $175.00 (plus HST)
